Mourad N'Zif to Amiens SC?
Reporter: Ligue1
According to Foot National, AS Beauvais midfielder Mourad N'Zif will be leaving the club in order to look for a new adventure elsewhere. Perhaps Amiens SC could be his next destination? You heard it here first! The club, who have recently been relegated from Ligue 2, have already been linked with a number of players and N'Zif could prove to be a worthy signing as they look to bounce back into Ligue 2 next season. After a recent small interview with the attacking midfielder and myself, he said (in French): "I'm not sure where I'll go, but yes, if Amiens were to propose me something, I could possibly accept [their offer]". This could be good news for Amiens as the 26-year-old was voted as one of the top attacking midfielders in the National for the past season on the Foot National website. The former Le Mans, Pau, and Laval midfielder has made 30 league appearances and scored 4 times for Beauvais this season. Interview held on Facebook. 06/09/2009.
Senegal: A New Era
Reporter: Ligue1
October 11th, 2008 is a date that many Senegalese fans will want to forget as it spelled disaster for their national team, who failed to move on to the final round of the 2010 World Cup qualification after being held to a 1-1 draw against their neighboring rivals, Gambia. Months have passed since Senegal's "tragedy" and many locals have lost interest in the team for many reasons - from the players' lack of pride to the federation, which has been in a shambles since last year after more than half of the FSF's (Senegalese Football Federation) members had resigned following Senegal's poor showing at the African Nations Cup, causing the government to take over and bring up problems with FIFA. Things started to look brighter with the new Normalisation Committee being introduced last April and with some inspiring performances early on in qualifying, no one had planned on an early exit. It was only after Les Lions managed to win twice and draw twice that they started to feel the pressure, losing 3-2 in Algeria and conceding a late equalizer against Gambia in what was a 'do or die' match in front of their home crowd.
Aziz Corr Nyang's 85th minute strike proved lethal as they made sure the Senegalese would not go any further in the competition, meaning that the Lions of Teranga are in a drought, having not made it to the finals since 2002. Seven years and four managers later, the West Africans are now in the rebuilding process as they attempt to inject new life into the squad with their sights being set on qualification for the African Nations Cup in 2012. Despite the qualifiers not taking place for a while (a year or so), many of the people who are involved remain upbeat. The only thing that is missing now is a new coach , which hasn't been chosen yet even though the committee was supposed to make its choice a little over a month ago. The good news is that Senegal will be back in action as they have recently announced that friendlies against Oman and Iran will take place on March 28th and April 1st. It will mark the first time the squad will be back since its disaster back in October and with the side's technical director, Amsatou Fall, in charge of team affairs for the mean time, a new era looks to be on the horizon.
With the 2002 generation on the decline, the "myth" looks set to be buried after El-Hadji Diouf and Henri Camara were rumored not to have been included in Amsatou Fall's list for the upcoming friendlies, with Tony Sylva being the sole survivor from the 2002 squad. This could only mean a bright future ahead for a country that is known for its footballing talents, with a long list of its players plying their trade in Europe at the moment. According to the Senegalese press, the group for Oman and Iran might be encouraging as, apart from Bayal Sall (St. Etienne), Cheikh Gueye (Metz), Remi Gomis (Caen) and Kader Mangane (Rennes), Demba Ba (Hoffenheim), Djiby Fall (Lokomotiv Moscow), Victor Mendy (Metz), Cheikh Mbengue (Toulouse), Papiss Cisse (Metz) and Martin Fall (Angers) have also been looked at and could receive call-ups in the near future.
Also included in the rumors were three local players from the Senegalese side that finished fourth in the African Nations Championship, including Mamadou Bâ (Jaraaf), who was the best goalkeeper at the tournament having only conceded once. He is already being tipped as the prime candidate to succeed Tony Sylva! The other two players mentioned from that CHAN side were Sidy Ndiaye and Mor Diouf (both defenders from Douanes). Don't be surprised if you see Mamadou Niang on the list either, he still remains a threat to this day as he has shown yesterday in Amsterdam (Ajax 2-2 OM).This new look Senegal reminds me of when Bruno Metsu had taken over from Peter Schnittger back in 2000 and how he transformed the team, putting the lion in each and every player's heart and giving them the spark they needed to qualify for the 2002 World Cup. The question is: Will the new generation have that same desire and that same pride? We'll see about that as there are more short term questions to be answered. Have Senegal recovered from their shock exit? Can they bounce back from it? What ever happens, there will certainly be a lot of responses in these next two friendlies.
There was an idea at The Complex for reporters to make websites about their favourite teams, so here are some of the websites:
